Marine killed in Afghanistan laid to rest in Indiana
The Associated Press
FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Hundreds of mourners gathered in northern Indiana for the funeral of a Marine killed last week along with his bomb-sniffing dog by a bombing in Afghanistan.
The Journal Gazette reports that dozens of Marines attended the Dec. 29 service for Lance Cpl. William Crouse IV at Fort Wayne’s First Assembly of God. Friends and family described the 22-year-old as a mischievous, fearless and competitive young man who had a deep faith.
His mother urged the audience to reflect on the true cost of war. Nancy Siders said her son died helping safeguard Americans’ freedoms.
Crouse died after a Dec. 21 bombing that came six weeks into his first tour of duty. The Woodruff, S.C., resident grew up in Fort Wayne and Angola before moving to South Carolina while in high school.
